How Often Should You Get a Bike Fit?

You got a bike fit a few seasons ago so you're good forever, right? Not exactly.

A proper bike fit is essential to maximizing performance, comfort, and injury prevention on the bike. But what many riders don’t realize is that a bike fit isn’t a “one-and-done” deal. Just like your training, your fit should evolve with you. We recommend checking in on your fit once a year, as bodies chance and components wear down. But there are a few notable instances that truly warrant the need for a new bike fit.

5 Signs It’s Time for a New Fit

1. You Got a New Bike
This one’s obvious. Different geometry = different contact points. Even if it’s the same size or brand, your new setup needs to be adjusted to you.

2. You’ve Been Injured or Are Coming Back from an Injury
An injury, even one unrelated to cycling, can alter your biomechanics, mobility, and strength. A proper fit during this time can help you adapt without compensation, rebuild safely, and avoid future setbacks.

3. You’ve Had Big Fitness or Body Composition Changes
Whether you’ve built more strength, lost weight, or simply gained more riding experience, your position may need fine-tuning. The right fit supports where your body is now, not where it was a year ago.

4. Something Just Feels Off
Numb hands. Knee pain. Saddle discomfort. What most riders don’t realize is that cycling components can wear. Saddles warp and bend, shoes and pedals wear out along your loading pattern, and cleats need to be replaced every so often. Even a small nagging ache can be your body’s way of saying the setup isn’t working anymore. Don’t wait for it to become a bigger issue.

5. Your Goals on the Bike Have Changed
Bikes changes, bodies change, and our goals in the sport also change, whether you’re looking at upping your game and pursuing greater aspirations or you’ve decided to dial things back. If you got a bike fit when your cycling goals were different, it’s probably time to check in again on your fit to ensure it’s optimized to help you reach new or different heights.

A Seasonal Fit Check

We recommend revisiting your fit at least once a year, ideally around a seasonal shift, like when moving from indoor trainer to outdoor riding (or vice versa). Small changes in position can help adapt to different training loads and riding conditions.
